10 ways to unblock a sink

Clean the pipe

The very first thing to do when you have trouble with your kitchen sink is to clean the pipe. Drain the water and keep it dry. You prepare a bucket in case there is spill while opening the pipes. When pipe is already open put the bucket underneath the pipe. And when there is no more water dripping, start taking the blocked material out of the pipe and put it in the bucket. When you see the pipe empty try flushing it with hot water. In some cases this solves the problem.

Pour boiling water

Not all cases with a blocked sink are very serious . Some cases can still be solved with an easier solution . At this time a simple remedy can be applied. As simple as boiling tap water, you can use any kitchen pot to heat up water on your cooker. When boiling water is ready, carefully pour it down to the sink and wait for seconds to let it work. Pour the boiling water three times. This is the quickest and easiest way to unclog a pipe

Apply baking soda and vinegar

These are always present in the kitchen. When clogging occurs you might not need to spend a penny for de clogging your sink as these are always in the cupboard. Baking soda is a sodium bicarbonate which can be used for cooking and cleaning. It is one of the effective substance to remove stubborn particles stuck in your drain. And vinegar on the other hand is an aqueous solution of acetic acid and trace chemicals that may include flavorings. Vinegar typically contains 5–20% acetic acid by volume. Usually the acetic acid is produced by the fermentation of ethanol or sugars by acetic acid bacteria (according to Wikipedia). Therefore when combined the two substance react with each other. To make both effective, pour a bucket of boiling water down your drain. After that, you can then dump ½ cup of baking soda and let it stay for several minutes, followed by pouring a mixture of one cup vinegar and one cup of boiling water on top of the baking soda. Slowly pour it down the drain and wait for 15 minutes letting them work. Flush again with boiling water.

Unclog sink with salt and baking soda

The best way to use this application is at night time right before you go to sleep as the drain is free from usage and is left and dry until morning. To effectively get the result, you pour a cup of baking soda into the clogged drain. You follow pouring a cup of salt into the drain again. Wait for few minutes and then flush the drain with hot water. If you can see that the drain is starting to drain, keep flushing the drain with hot water until it is unblocked.

Tip an unblocked drain with caustic soda

You might ask if a caustic soda is dangerous. Yes, it is a very dangerous since it is made of sodium hydroxide which can cause sever burns in all parts of the body it will have contact with. However, with careful application this is helpful to unblock your clogged kitchen sink. You can simply pour caustic soda to the drain after diluting 3 cups of the substance with 3 liters of tap water in a big bucket. You can leave it overnight for a great effect.

Include dish detergent in unblocking your drain

Aside from the previous suggestions in unclogging your drain, dish detergent is another handy way to clean your drain. You can use ½ cup of the dish detergent and pour it into the drain. Let it stay for 30 minutes. While waiting for the 30 minutes prepare boiling water to be poured into the pipe. This way is just another way you can clean your blocked drain on your own. When you notice the water is already running down repeat the process for three to four times until water completely flows through.

Pump your drains with a plunger

Typically, you see a plunger in your toilet as it is normally used to pump a clogged toilet bowl. However in general, a plunger is used to clear blockages in drains and pipes. All you have to do, if your sink has a double section, first close one of the drain holes to make the suction effective. Or else it will not work. Next, take the plunger and put it over the hole of an open drain. Carefully but with force, you push and pull the plunger and keep it stuck to the sink. Pump for 10-15 times and remove plunger to to check if the water drains through. Once done, pour a bucket of hot water into the drain to completely unblock the drain.

Vacuum your blocked kitchen sink

This might sound very strange to you. Yes you heard it right. You can use a vacuum to unblock your sink. But bare in mind that you can only use a wet and dry vacuum cleaner. Unlike the other ways in unblocking kitchen sink which can be done alone, this one is different. You need help in doing this. The very first you can do is connect the vacuum to the power supply. Make sure to prepare loads of rags to dry the areas splashed with water while unblocking. Do not switch the machine on yet but insert the hose of the vacuum into the

drain and manage to pulling it out of the hole. If you are having accessories with you, remove all of them especially the small ones as these will be sucked up while doing the work. You can now switch on the machine and if you do not hear a high pitched sound that means there is nothing stuck in it and if changes its sound that means the machine is starting to suck the clog going out. Wait until the sound will go back to the high pitch and that indicates the clog is already removed.
